You’ve no doubt heard about the significant improvements that Denodo Platform 6.0 offers over previous iterations, such as self-service data discovery and search features, more robust security, and support for a wider variety of cloud and big data technologies.
But now I’m proud to say that Denodo Platform 6.0 is fully certified on Cloudera Enterprise 5, a distinction that is not to be taken lightly.
A Trusted Part of the Hub
Supported by the Cloudera Enterprise platform, Cloudera’s Enterprise Data Hub (EDH) is a turnkey solution for Hadoop deployments, which lets companies set up secure, enterprise-caliber Hadoop implementations quickly and easily. Because working with Hadoop also necessitates working with a complex, evolving set of open-source projects, Cloudera simplifies Hadoop deployments with management tools, added security features, and hands-on expertise.
The Cloudera Manager, for example, provides deployment, monitoring, and alerting functionality, as well as multi-tenant tuning and backup and disaster recovery capabilities. The EDH’s security provisions include encryption and key management, role-based access, and full-stack audit, lineage, discovery, and lifecycle management.
But to make Hadoop deployments easy and straightforward for customers, Cloudera relies on a rich ecosystem of technology alliances, of which Denodo is a proud partner. Cloudera has strong expectations of its more than 2,600 partners, requiring technology solutions to be certified through a rigorous process. When customers work with Cloudera, they know that they work with the best technologies and the most trusted vendors.
A Rigorous Certification Program
Denodo Platform 5.5 has been certified on Cloudera, but since then, Cloudera has raised the bar on certification requirements.
With Cloudera Enterprise 5, Cloudera prides itself on having the most comprehensive certification on the Hadoop market. To give a sense of the flavor of this new certification, below is a summary of five key requirements. By meeting each of these, Denodo Platform 6.0 demonstrates a set of extremely strong capabilities.
Cloudera Enterprise 5 certification must be performed on:
- Real-world, multi-node clusters. It’s much easier to pass certification on a simple, single-cluster system, or a virtual one. That’s exactly why Cloudera will not certify technology partners unless they demonstrate that their solutions can perform on actual multi-node clusters. In this way, a partner solution proves itself in terms of tricky issues like multi-tenancy and security.
- End-to-end functional test scenarios. To pass certification, partners need to demonstrate that their solutions work on real-world style data sets. This means that a simple, generic test of the solution working with Cloudera is not going to pass. Vendors have to demonstrate that a solution can really go through the paces on Cloudera.
- Secure environments. When it comes to security, Cloudera has a strong reputation to uphold with enterprise clients. That’s why partners need to demonstrate how the solution functions when mechanisms such as Kerberos security, Apache Sentry, or HDFS encryption are enabled. Cloudera needs to assure its customers that partners are tested on a rigorous assortment of different configurations that customers are likely to encounter.
- Solutions that are compatible with the EDH. Cloudera requires that all partner solutions support the EDH by proving its performance on every component of the EDH stack. Products that require special builds or are not compatible with the components of EDH are not certified.
- Complete EDH workloads. Finally, Cloudera requires that all hardware, data virtualization (like Denodo), and cloud partners demonstrate certification on full EDH workloads, which includes interoperability with technologies like HBase and Impala.
Denodo Platform 6.0: A Proven Solution
By achieving certification with Cloudera, Denodo Platform 6.0 is proven to be a robust solution capable of handling the demands of today’s big data initiatives.
